Totally happy with the one I put on the Wintermerkur last year. No more leaks or burning oil smell!
I just changed my valve cover on the Summermerkur, and was happy to find the Ford part there. Had my doubts about being able to re-use it, as the last guy in there put the valve cover bolts in with an impact wrench

I highly doubt it - that price is below dealer cost for the Ford gasket and the part# is not a Ford p/n. I know it says it's a Ford part - it might be that he has some NOS of the old gasket, or it could just be a complete lie. If you want to bother, ask him to supply the Ford part# off the package.

It's been longer than that. I purchased my first reallygoodvalvecovergasket in April of 1998. That would make it 7 years and 5 months since I finally dragged my tail down to the Ford dealer to buy one. People had to have been making a big deal out of it for a long time prior to that if *I* went and got the correct gasket.

I just wish there was a way to put the correct word out there to get people to purchase:

- Ranger/Ford valve cover gasket
- 1035 (or better) head gasket
- Ford PCV
- wheel bearings and seals from anywhere but AutoZone
- Scorpio wheel bearings from anywhere but AutoZone because God knows the Scorpio rear is NOT a Set24
- a whole slew of other things not coming to mind right now

Composition is rubber over metal gasket with metal rings around the bolt
holes.

Figured I'd add this to this thread....

Ranger 2.5 cam cover gasket (’98-’01) #F57Z-6584-A (this is the one I installed, some other Ranger years probably work as well)

Although it's nice to have the part# for backup verification, you don't really need it, nor do you need to even ask for a Ranger valve cover gasket specifically.

The ONLY gasket Ford sells any more for ANY Lima 2.3/5 engine is the steel reinforced one - the "good" one we're all talking about here. You can actually walk in and ask for a valve cover gasket for a 1975 Pinto 2.3 and you'll get this gasket. Just make sure you're walking into a Ford dealer and not an AutoZone, Pep Boys, etc - they'll all sell you the blue Felpro - if you do that, make sure you pick up a fire extinguisher too.

I will also add on my '87 T-bird I got the blue Fel-Pro and its already leaking. Definitely gonna use the original Ford Gasket. The old gasket I replaced was cork and leaking, so its obvious that it has been replaced before.

Upon closer inspection the ones we have in stock are Ford F1ZZ-6584-A, which is 91 and up Mustang 2.3 part number. They are Ford, black rubber, metal rings around the bolt holes.

I've personally used at least 10 of these on XRs here and sold at least another 10 of them.
Part number talk - the F1 is 1991 and the F5 is 1995, so the F5 part number would be the newest, revised and basically "best" version of the gasket.
