OK - I've come to my wits end trying to align the driveshaft on my 85 XR. As I mentioned in my previous post the trans mount, guibo, and CSB are new. Motor mounts (t-bird) are also relatively new. I've managed to get the up/down guibo runout within spec by shimming the trans mount and CSB but I can't get the side-to-side runout even close. The trans mount and CSB are both as far to one side as they can go. I even loosened the front crossmember with no affect.
At this point I'm thinking about alternatives:
1. Go with a 1 piece driveshaft
2. Stay with 2 piece driveshaft with no guibo (I may have a lead on a Capri).
3. Change to a T-5

Re: Driveshaft alignment
When I read about this the first time I thought there has got to be something wrong. Sorry I don't have any great advice or anything. Could you take it all apart and start over? Did someone else do something that could be wrong? Is some new part incorrect or somehow damaged? Is something wrong with the vehicle itself from an accident?
The best way to keep your Kia from being stolen is to not have a Kia.

Re: Driveshaft alignment
I'm thinking something is wrong also. A few years ago my son turned a corner too fast and dropped the right front wheel into a construction ditch. We had to replace the front crossmember, steering rack, and sway bar. He went off to college shortly after that and the car has been sitting until this year.
I don't see any obvious remaining damage but I'm wondering if the frame has been tweaked. If the right front has been pushed back it might be the issue. It probably wouldn't take much movement to get the 60/1000 side-to-side runout that I'm getting.
In response to my earlier post someone mentioned checking the rear end mounts. I don't know how they could affect the guibo alignment but they look ok to me.
I saw on another post that a Capri driveshaft (2 piece, no guibo) is a direct bolt on. I know where i might be able to get one if that is an option.
I wonder how the factory managed to do the alignment.
